National Mentoring Summit 2011 PDF Print E-mail

“Almost 90% of today’s young people would like an adult mentor!”

This amazing statistic from a leading youth organization emphasizes the great potential for an intentional church-based mentoring ministry. That’s why Vision For Youth is sponsoring our first annual National Mentoring Summiton March 5, 2011 in Clarks Summit, PA. As you know, the concept of mentoring has received a great deal of attention from business and educational leaders recently. However, it is our contention that it is time for the church to embrace this model of potential ministry! In fact, we are absolutely convinced that the best mentoring takes place in the church. Come to Clarks Summit on Saturday, March 5th and find out why!

A few years ago I had the opportunity to write a small booklet on this subject, Mentoring the Next Generation: A Strategy for Connecting the Generations – and because of the research I put into the writing of that simple publication, I have had the opportunity to speak all around the country on the subject of church-based mentoring. Older, Godly adults can develop loving and growing mentoring relationships with younger people. Mentoring is Biblical (see Titus 2 and 1 Thessalonians 2), and it is certainly practical.

If the idea of church-based mentoring interests you – be sure to join other church leaders for this practical, creative, relevant – and affordable 1-day seminar. This day of training is designed for pastors, youth pastors, youth workers, Sunday School teachers, women’s and men’s ministry leaders, and other church leaders. We’ll discuss Biblical principles and we’ll talk through practical ideas. The Summit will also include sessions for both men and women. In fact, the more people who attend from your church – the easier and more effective it will be to implement a mentoring strategy in your church upon return home.
Please put this event on your calendars now and plan to attend - and plan to bring others from your church along. The full day of sessions, resources, notes, snacks, and lunch will be offered at only $30 per person. (Full-time students, high-school or college, can attend for only $20.) Watch for more details to be announced soon. You’ll learn how to turn traditional “programs” into legitimate ministry opportunities as we discuss a practical strategy for connecting the generations in your church! Our speakers, including Peggy and I, will present sessions on topics such as: Biblical Principles of Mentoring, Recruiting Mentors, Fitting Mentors with Younger People, and How to Implement Mentoring into Youth Ministry, Men’s Ministries, and Women’s Ministries. We’ll also discuss how to involve senior citizens as mentors.
Pre-registrations are due to Vision For Youth by February 25, 2011. (Late registrations will be accepted as space is available for $50 per person!) So, be sure to register the staff from your church before February 25, 2011. Let me know if you have any questions. You can reach me at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
