Today’s youth workers must be aware of an important cultural world to today’s students. Much of kids’ interaction and relationships are taking place here. I am talking about the Internet and primarily the use of “myspace” for middle and high school students and “facebook” for college and university students. This is where students are meeting, interacting, and expressing feelings. This is also where we need to be if we are going to effectively discern the needs of kids. Write Comment (2 Comments) |

You’ve been there. That place in time that you can look back on and say with utmost confidence, “God was there!” My dear friends, I have something pounding in my chest that I have to unleash as we have just experienced one of those moments that will quite possibly go down in the annuls of time as a defining moment of our fellowship of churches and more specifically, ‘youth culture’ as we know it today. As visitors to this web site may have noticed, Vision For Youth is trying to raise the bar for international youth ministry. We want to use any ounce of influence that our organization has to call youth workers and others to make this a top priority. Here is a list of some the things we are doing: We published an entire issue of our magazine around the theme of youth & missions. Each year we host “New Hope for Chicago” and “New Hope for Philadelphia.” Next summer we are hosting our first international youth missions trip to Berlin, Germany. We have announced a partnership with ABWE to launch Vision For Youth International under the direction of Dr. Cheryl Fawcett. We co-hosted our first “Youth Pastor’s Consultation” at ABWE to begin a dialogue between youth pastors and missionary personnel concerning youth missions trips. We are hosting our first “Veteran Youth Pastor’s Forum” at the National Youth Ministries Conference IN January 2006. We just released a call to prayer for laborers – motivating youth workers everywhere to encourage students and others to pray for workers into God’s harvest. And now we are thinking of ways to follow-up on these initiatives with other ways to impact students for Christ all around the World.
Now we’re utilizing this “Blog” to gather responses from youth workers. What are you thinking? What have you done? What is your philosophy of youth missions trips and what are you trying to accomplish by taking students? What are you doing to call your people to prayer for laborers? Let us know. We are anxious to hear your thoughts. Register and leave a comment now! Write Comment (1 Comments) |
